Obituary for
Joan C. Harnedy
Joan Catherine Holland Harnedy died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 10, 2017. She graduated from The Academy of the Holy Angels in Fort Lee, N.J. and went on to The College of New Rochelle, where she received a B.A. in Psychology and was inducted into the National Honor Society. Joan was employed by American Universities on Madison Avenue and later worked at IBM, in the Human Resources Department until she left the workforce to raise her children. On December 29, 1962 she married Edmund Richard Harnedy. They shared a true love story for 39 years together, before his passing. Joan embodied generosity and an understated grace and elegance.
Her children and grandchildren were the focal point of her life. She stimulated their intellectual curiosity right from the start. Joan instilled in them the values of faith, family and celebrating achievements, no matter how large or small. Joan enjoyed spending time gardening, birding, swimming and reading.
Predeceased by her husband and brothers, Robert, John, and sister Elaine. She is survived by her children Richard (Lynn), Julia (Raymond), grandsons Eddie, James, Liam, her sister Marion Robey, sister in law Kiki Holland and numerous nieces and nephews.
