The Doc
They say a man is known by the fruits of his labor - in that, the Doc did many good things. When I told my mom, Viola Holmes of his passing, she commented "oh, and he saved so many lives during his life ..." Whether he did or not, there is one undeniable fact: he made life better for many and gave life (along with with Joan, of course) to 13 amazing people, artists, warriors, teachers, healers, athletes, and more.
It is easy to judge the past, it is hard to see the perfection of everything that occurred in one's life, much less in the life of another. But if Jack were to be measured by his sons and daughters, I would say he has had a remarkable life.
I for one, am grateful to have grown up in the same neighborhood as he chose to raise his family. I AM grateful to count some of his children among my closest friends on the planet and I consider them to be family though no paper says so.
I told Eileen a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to adopt her dad because I had lost mine so long ago and had no father figure in my life. I got to spend some wonderful moments with him as he retained his mental acuity right up until the end. This included celebrating Christmas, New Years and the Super Bowl and his birthday with him!!
So I AM grateful to you Jack, above all, for your children - you must have done something right!!
Like many others, I see you in your new surroundings with so many loved ones and I'm sure today is a day of rejoicing for many as we celebrate your graduation into your new world, your new life and we look forward to seeing you real soon as we learn to see beyond the veil of death.
Love and Light,
Christmas Mager (Carol Holmes)
