Obituary for Tanya Sciortino (Boricewvich)

Tanya Sciortino was born in Manhattan in 1923 to the late Matrena, nee Kudlovich, and Grisha Boricewvich. Tanya’s late sisters and brother, Elsie Bauer, Monya Esposito, and John Borice, remained throughout their life her closest friends.
When Tanya attended a friend’s wedding in 1951, a fierce storm forced her to look for a way to get home. Joseph Sciortino had a car. Tanya and Joe married two years later on November 23, 1953 and enjoyed the next 42 years together, first in Brooklyn, then in Commack, NY, and later on in Boca Raton, FL.
After Joe died suddenly in 1995, Tanya demonstrated tremendous personal strength, courage and grace for the next 22 years, even as she suffered from Parkinson’s during the last ten. Though Parkinson’s took many things from her, it didn’t take her zest for life. Tanya always had a ready smile for family, friends, all those who took care of her as well as for everyone with whom she came in contact.
Tanya is survived by daughter Marie Venezia, son-in-law Tony Venezia and their children Veronica and Kayce; daughter Patti Bohlin and her sons Michael and Chris; and daughter Joanne Sciortino and her daughter Victoria. Tanya is also survived by many nieces, nephews, close friends and their families who loved their “Aunt Toni.”
Tanya will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband Joseph at a future date yet to be scheduled. For memorial contributions, the family has chosen The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research michaeljfox.org
