Obituary for Millicent Aronoff

ARONOFF – Millicent (née Cohen), 93, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Millicent was the cherished wife of Morton (predeceased); the mother of Andrew (Hélène, predeceased), Louise (predeceased), and Mitzi (Steven); the grandmother of Morgen (Mario), Rosia (Brent), Josh, Sarah, and Madeline; the great-grandmother of Henry. Millicent’s sisters, Blanche Chaykin (Sydney) and Jeanette Springer (Sam), and brother, Oscar Cohen (Shirley) are all predeceased.
Millicent was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brooklyn College. She was an accomplished elementary school teacher who dedicated her career to teaching inner-city children. She remained active in several associations, notably the Brooklyn Women’s Coalition (BWC), the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Sheepshead Bay Women’s Club. The BWC was founded by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz; Millicent was honored to preside as President. She adored her colleagues that became her long-lasting friends. She was an avid contributor to numerous non-profit organizations, including the ACLU, Amnesty International, Channel 13, Doctors Without Borders, Planned Parenthood, and Human Rights Watch. Donations may be directed to any charity of your choice.
A private memorial ceremony will be held on Friday, October 6 at 11 a.m., with a service starting promptly at noon. For further details, RSVP to ceremony.for.millicent@aaronoff.com. Funeral services have been handled privately.
